The Stanton Square project represents a collaborative project by Horning Brothers, the Horning Family Fund, Martha’s Table and Community of Hope that will comprise a mixed income housing development, including both rental and for-sale units, along with a non-profit Community Service Campus.

This proposed development demonstrates the continued commitment of these partners to the District and its residents. Horning Brothers has been active in the revitalization of Washington DC’s neighborhoods for more than 50 years, earning a reputation for careful development, superior property management, and philanthropy. The vision for this project seeks to combine for-sale and rental mixed-income housing with a Community Service Campus. The Community Service Campus services will reflect the outcome of a detailed needs assessment study and outreach to community leaders and local existing non-profits. This project will leverage Horning Brothers’ development and property management expertise with its non-profit partners’ expertise in providing much needed and high quality supportive services to the area.

Horning Brothers and the Horning Family Fund are very excited to be collaborating with two of the District’s most respected non-profits, Martha’s Table and Community of Hope. For 35 years, both Martha’s Table and Community of Hope have offered their services to Districts residents and see this project as an opportunity to expand their existing presence in Ward 8 and provide services where they are needed most.

Martha’s Table will be bringing the successful education and food programming services that they have operated for 35 years with them to this location. These programs include:

  • Early childhood and elementary education (12 weeks – 10 years) focused on kindergarten readiness and social/emotional outcomes (Healthy Start)
  • Older youth and parent engagement programming supporting learners, leaders, and earners (Healthy Connections)
  • Nutrition education programming including administrative and program support for the Free Pop-up Grocery Market programs held at public and charter elementary schools in Wards 7 & 8 (Healthy Eating)

Community of Hope (and partner organizations) envisions providing complementary services to those offered by Martha’s Table with the goal of supporting the needs of the whole family with a focus on behavioral health services such as depression, trauma and anxiety. Community of Hope envisions their role to be:

  • Behavioral health services
  • Connection to health services: enrollment in benefits, referrals, perhaps some on-site services
  • Supportive services for families, potentially including assistance with employment and job training

The housing will include 128 affordable rental housing units and 42 market rate townhomes. The project is expected to be completed in 2017.
