THE HORNING BROTHERS STORY
Building communities for more than 55 years.
WATCH HORNING BROTHERS CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF COMMUNITY BUILDING!
In 1958, brothers Joseph and Larry Horning founded Horning Brothers, Inc. Now, more than a half century later, the company is known throughout the metropolitan region as a hometown firm specializing in careful development and caring management of apartment communities and retail centers.
A lot has changed in the DC area since 1958. One thing that hasn’t changed is the consistent presence of Horning Brothers. Because the Horning family is DC based and takes personal pride in the firm’s properties, there is a sense of stability and attention to detail that may not be found at other management firms. At Horning Brothers, we believe that our reputation is built every day by the people we serve, whether they be commercial or residential customers. This commitment to our neighbors is one of the cornerstones of our success.
Another cornerstone is our employees, many of whom have grown with the company. We are truly honored by the number of people who have chosen to make a career with the firm. We are dedicated to providing employees opportunities for growth—both professional and personal. We promote from within whenever possible and we support and encourage staff members in their individual efforts to volunteer in their communities.
While other companies may measure their success by the number of apartment communities they own and manage throughout the country, Horning Brothers is different. We focus on being an active local partner in the communities we serve. Many of our affordable properties offer resident services supporting after-school programs, senior programs and workforce development. As a company, Horning Brothers is an enthusiastic supporter of City Year, Rebuilding Together of DC and GALA Theater. Staff members are supported and encouraged in their efforts to volunteer in their communities.

“Thanks again Horning Brothers for being a part of my journey, Mr. Joe for his vision for this company, and the belief that my contribution could play a role.”
